#1 is a photo that you have all seen time and time again, it is my "trademark" photo. I use this photo on almost everything - blog banner, main site splash page, business cards, and other promotional materials. It is a photograph of baby Gavin at only a few weeks old. I have been able to capture both Gavin and his sister Genesy's lives over the past year and it has been so great. They have really become extended family. It's important for me to always remember how important these images are to my clients. I am capturing and sharing very special moments in all of their lives. Over the past year I've shared in numerous "firsts" not only for myself and my business but in my clients lives. It makes me realize that what I do is more than just "work". I look forward to a very productive 2012 with new clients and old.

Top 11 of 2011 - #2
#2 is a shot from this year and last. It's so fun to look back and see how much Genesy has grown. It's crazy how many "firsts" and big events I've been able to share in not only her's but many other clients lives.

Top 11 of 2011 - #3
#3 goes along with #4 and shooting more of family. This past year my brother and his fiance have gotten engaged and I've been able to photograph at least 3 different engagement sessions since. It's good practice and fun to boss them around :)

Top 11 of 2011 - #4
I find it very easy when I am home and/or out with family and friends to leave my camera behind. I always swear that I'm going to be better with taking photos of my own family but I just seem to get, I guess we'll call it lazy when it comes to photographs for myself. That's why I chose for #4 photos from the impromptu holiday session I put together with my own 6, yes, 6 dogs. It was a good reminder that while it may seem at times unimportant or a real pain to take photos for myself - it's always worth it!

Top 11 of 2011 - #5
I can't say that #5 was my first pet session since I have 6 dogs of my own that I shoot all the time but it did make me realize even more that I'm not the only person out there that considers their dogs part of the family (I'd prefer my dogs over many of my human relatives - haha). I can't wait for more canine sessions in 2012.

Top 11 of 2011 - #6
#6 is a good ol' fashion family portrait. No frills - just wonderful natural lighting and happy faces. This session was not only my first session shooting twins, it was my first session shooting with my new camera and I was very happy with the results & continue to be happy with them.

Top 11 of 2011 - #7
Much like #8, #7 was a moment captured. During a family mini session this little guy wanted nothing more than to just watch the ducks floating around in the pond below. Not only did he want to see the ducks he wanted everyone else to watch them too. It was so sweet watching his big brown eyes light up watching those ducks, it's an innocence and wonder I was happy to be able to capture.

Top 11 of 2011 - #8
For #8 I went back to the beginning of July for a session at the beach. The family was gathering together from out of state for the grandmothers birthday and they asked me to come and take a few photos of them all together it's funny to me that one of my favorites from that day and one that I can many compliments on was an image that I captured truly by being in the right place at the right time. There is just something so innocent and wonderful about this capture.

Top 11 of 2011 - #9
#9 on the list was from my first ever session in New York City! This mini session was anything but! I had such a great time utilizing my surroundings in Central Park (and the bordering streets) with this family. I feel like this session truly captured the time and place that we were in. And, I must say this little guy made my job super easy - do you see those bright blue eyes? and do you see that Santa hat - he didn't so much as flinch - he wore that proudly the whole time and boy was he a trooper because I have to say it was pretty darn cold that day. I'm looking forward to adding Central Park to my list of session locations for the future!

Top 11 of 2011 - #10
#10 on the list is my first "real" client (from 2010), Genesy. I've been able to document this little curly haired cutie since she was just 3 months old and just recently shot her and her little brothers holiday portraits and already have started planning her next sessions theme (me and her mom have some great ideas)! This Halloween/Fall themed session only needed one thing - CANDY. I went to the store before the session and picked up 3 of these over-sized rainbow lollipops. These lollipops were not only fragile but they were also rather heavy for a 1 year old so I knew I wanted to have at least 1 extra just in case it was dropped and broken. While I'm happy to report there were no lollipops harmed in the making of these images I knew that if I didn't have an extra it would have been dropped and shattered on the ground before I'd have taken a single photo (Murphey's law). A good lesson - ALWAYS HAVE EXTRAS!

Top 11 of 2011 - #11
With all my holiday sessions complete and the new year looming I find myself looking back through all of the years sessions and seeing how much I have changed and grown as a photographer. So here I sit tossing the idea back and fourth of compiling a list of what I feel for one reason or another are my top 11 images from 2011 and showing them off yet again. The list is merely a fun way of highlighting milestones in my personal growth as a photographer and artist. I've not only learned a lot this past year from my mistakes but also from my successes. Session after session I'd find myself picking up new tricks and losing bad habits - not only in the composition of the images in camera but working with them out of camera in post production as well. Starting today until December 31st I will post the images (in no particular order). The list is full of not only old favorites but hidden gems not yet featured on the blog.
AND at the end of the countdown I will be debuting brand new session packages for 2012! So please sit back, enjoy, and count down to the end of 2011 with me.
So here we go - I figured what better way to start off the list than with my littlest client, Leonidas. I'm a sucker for a cute hat and this little boy had probably the cutest I've seen yet. One of my favorite aspects of this session was the utilization of the props. Props can be tricky and I like to think that with this sessions I was able to find the perfect balance between using them and abusing them. Also, I was able to test drive a few new props that will be available for the upcoming 2012 sessions (but more about that later).

Personal Review - Holiday Cards from MyPublisher
A few weeks ago I received a coupon code from MyPublisher for 10 free holiday cards, so of course I had to give them a try (I just want to add that when MyPublisher says FREE they mean FREE, you don't get charged for any kind of tax or shipping like I find many other companies do). I usually just design my holiday card each year from scratch so I figured I'd use images from past client sessions, after all, they were just for fun/test purposes. There are tons of different card designs to choose from, and each one has it's own charming quality and offers multiple options for photo layouts. The assembly of the card is rather simple, just drag and drop your images and add your family's names and message. Many cards come with pre-made greetings that can not be changed or removed - I do wish that wasn't the case, some of the cards had great designs but the greetings weren't exactly relevant to my needs. After you assemble your card you have the option to add an envelope liner - FOR FREE! These liners are great, simple and come in a variety of colors and patterns - I love them! MyPublisher is great when it comes to giving you the most bang for your buck and the freebies don't stop at the envelope liners - each card comes with a high quality white envelope with the option (again for free) to have your return address printed right on the envelope. Oh, and did I mention that with every holiday card order you receive FREE SHIPPING, a great bonus! My favorite thing about MyPublisher besides their high quality & great customer service is that I find they are the most true to color when it comes to printing (between CVS, Walmart, Snapfish, Shutterfly, & Rite Aid). After 5+ albums I've ordered from them (in multiple formats) I've never had a quality complaint! Theses cards were no exception - the card stock itself is wonderful. The cards are thick, which for me is a big deal - I hate the flimsy photo paper you get at CVS and places like that. You also get the option of either satin, matte or linen for your cards, I prefer the matte finish, it is just a personal preference - all options include sharp vibrant images. When I received my package, and I must say I wasn't expecting speedy service being that I was using a free code and that was certainly not the case, I received my package within a week of placing my order, the packaging was, as always above standard, everything was wrapped up nicely, NO BENT CORNERS! My only complaints/suggestions would be my hope that in the future they offer an option for a "blank"card so those of us who create our cards from scratch can still enjoy the high quality, great price, and wonderful extras. Also, I would like to see in the future there be more of an option for personalization when it comes to greetings on all of the cards, not just some. All in all I'm very pleased with my order and would definitely order from MyPublisher again, and would certainly recommend their card services to others.

Dinner and dessert have been served at my house and this year I made my 2 signature pies, a pumpkin & apple pie (they're really more of a tart but we still call them pies). Happy Thanksgiving everyone & good luck to those headed out to shop tonight & tomorrow!

Genesy 9.25 : Outtakes
It's not always easy to keep babies happy and smiling during a shoot. Despite the best efforts of the parents, the babysitters, my assistant (aka my mom), and myself they can get grumpy. The trick is to know when to give the models a break. During today's sibling shoot Genesy was forced to wait while I shot her little brother Gavin and during that time she kept busy and calm by collecting leaves and playing on her iphone (just kidding, it was the baby sitters). Check out Gavin's portion of the shoot here. Genesy's portion will be posted during the week.
Gavin - 3 Months : Portraits
Does this little guys sweet face look familiar to anyone? Well, it should considering he's pretty much become the poster child of Victoria Ann Photography, you can see him on our blog banner, our portfolio site's display album, and our business cards. How can you resist that handsome smile and that drool covered chin?

How Much is that Doggy in the Window?
Today I felt like posting a few adorable outtakes from Mary's session last October. In the middle of shooting we noticed Mary's attention started to drift away from us making silly noises and faces straight out the window. We all looked to see what had grabbed her attention and it was their dog. Mary so badly just wanted to play with the puppy and puppy so badly just wanted to play with her. It was so cute watching them both put their noses to the glass. So we took a juice break and let them play - anything to keep the models happy ;)

Atlantic City : Photo Recap
My boyfriends family & mine recently took a few days out of our busy schedules to visit Atlantic City, and nothing sums up a trip better than a few snap shots of the places we went and the things we saw.
